The Mount Holly Lantern Parade will be in its sixth year, scheduled for October 21, 2023 and is free for anyone who wishes to participate. Area art teachers are provided supplies for free to engage their classes in the process, fostering a connection between the parade and the support of arts education in our public schools. But also, resident participation has been crucial in making the parade the incredible success it is.
Emily Andress, owner of Awaken Gallery and true pioneer in bringing this event to Gaston County, is looking to teach the art of lantern making to individuals who wish to participate, with the hopes they will then bring their creations to the parade in October. Local Artist Meg Berney will assist Emily with teaching.
The workshop is free of charge, but participants MUST bring their own supplies. Those supplies are:
- 3M duct tape
- Wire cutters
- 16 gauge all purpose wire
Additional Supplies will be needed for finishing your lantern but are not necessary for the workshop (Emily and Meg will demonstrate and you will be encouraged to finish on your own):
- Mod Podge or Elmer’s
- Container to water down glue
- Foam brush
- Wet strength tissue paper
- Battery operated fairy lights
Space is limited, so spots will be available on a first come, first served basis.
